Sharon Tan

About

Sharon Tan is a seasoned theological educator and administrator with more than two decades of experience in graduate schools of theology and ministry.

She was a tenured professor of Christian ethics and taught core and advanced courses in Christian ethics for nine years before serving as CAO/Dean at a previous seminary. Her courses span social and virtue ethics, justice (social, legal, and economic), comparative religion, and specialized topics such as the ethics of reconciliation. She continued to serve in other seminaries as CAO/Dean before coming to Pacific, and has led institutions through accreditation, curricular redesign, faculty development, and the expansion of distance and continuing education programs.

With a Ph.D. (Ethics), a J.D., and an M.T.S. from Emory University, she brings legal, social, and theological perspectives to bear on complex moral questions. Her scholarship, teaching, and administration combine her interests in reconciliation, moral agency, Asian American Christian ethics, and ethical formation.

Dr. Tan has served on the Boards of the Association of Theological Schools and the Society for Christian Ethics. She was also a founding member of the Asian American working group at the SCE. Prior to her academic career, she practiced law in Atlanta, and is a member of the bars in Georgia and Missouri.
