PACIFIC THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY ANTI-DISCRIMINATION POLICY

Pacific Theological Seminary (PTS) is committed to the message and truth of the Bible, which states that all persons are created in God’s image and are therefore worthy of being treated with dignity and respect. The school is furthermore committed to creating and facilitating a diverse environment where students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to live lives consistent with the Bible’s teaching. To that end, PTS educational programs, admissions, employment practices, or other school-administered programs shall be free from discrimination, harassment, intimidation, and/or bullying based on race, color, ancestry, nationality, ethnic group identification, immigration status, age, actual or potential parental, family, or marital status, or the exclusion of any person because of pregnancy or related conditions, physical or mental disability, sex, or genetic information, as well as the perception of one or more of such characteristics, or association with a person or group with one or more of these actual or perceived characteristics. Admission to PTS programs will be based on class space, interest, age appropriateness, academic qualifications, and prerequisite education and coursework (where applicable).

Students, staff, faculty, and potential hires should be aware that, as a religious institution, PTS enjoys the right to establish and maintain policies and procedures in its hiring and student recruitment that help maintain a strictly Christian and biblically focused environment. To that end, PTS will only recruit and/or hire persons who believe in and seek to support PTS’ mission and theological positions, including but limited to its position on biblical views of sexuality, gender, and marriage. While PTS opposes discrimination and retaliation, it is exempt from certain anti-discrimination laws because of its status as a religious corporation. Nothing in this policy should be considered a waiver of PTS’ exemptions, legal defenses, or its right to make and enforce policies in furtherance of its religious beliefs.
