David Redelings, PhD

Chief Academic Officer & Dean, Assistant Professor (New Testament)

About

A fourth generation San Diegan, Dr. David Redelings is a graduate of San Diego State University. While working as a senior civil engineer, he received an MDiv from Bethel Seminary San Diego. Subsequently he entered a doctoral program at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, where he also served as a teaching assistant leading a Koine Greek tutorial. He earned his doctoral degree there for a thesis describing the way that, in John’s Gospel, belief (like reasonable trust) is based upon knowledge, including knowledge about history. His thesis was later published in 2011 as The Epistemological Basis for Belief According to John’s Gospel.

From 2003 to 2018 David was an adjunct instructor for Bethel Seminary, teaching many New Testament Survey courses, as well as teaching specifically on the Gospel of John, and on Faith and Reason. In his teaching, David has followed his strong interest in promoting careful and considered interpretation of Scripture, while emphasizing the primary messages of Scripture. David has also taught in churches for decades, and has been active in supporting the mission of translation of the Bible into languages that lack a translation.
